Many Brunei-owned luxury hotels have deleted their social media accounts, following international backlash regarding the country’s anti-LGBT laws and a boycott movement.

The boycott movement was led by celebrities such as George Clooney and Ellen DeGeneres after Brunei introduced laws that would see gay sex punishable by flogging or stoning to death.

Nine hotels called out by Ellen DeGeneres on Twitter have been made inaccessible on Facebook, while eight have deleted or deactivated on Twitter, and three have deleted or deactivated their Instagram accounts.
