Queensland Health authorities are putting out yet another call for people to get their measles shots, with 12 cases confirmed in Queensland alone this year.

Half of this year’s cases have been attributed to overseas travel, with Queenslanders becoming exposed overseas and bringing the disease home with them. The remainder are believed to have contracted the disease from another infectious person in the state.

Acting Medical Director of the Communicable Diseases Branch Dr Jonathan Malo warns measles is a serious illness responsible for deaths all over the world, and says there’s no harm in getting a booster if you can’t remember your vaccination history.
