In International news, more information has emerged about the state of relics and artworks that were housed in Notre Dame cathedral in Paris.

It is reported that most of the important pieces that were centuries old were removed in time whilst others have been destroyed in the blaze.

Both the crown of thorns of Jesus Christ and the tunic of Saint Louis have reportedly been saved however a fragment of the crown of thorns and relics of Saint Denis and Saint Genevieve, the patron saints of Paris, were destroyed as they were stored in the spire which couldn’t be saved.

Surprisingly though, the bronze statues of the Twelve Apostles on the cathedral’s spire were all saved.

The state of the cathedral’s famous gargoyles is unclear however there is fear they have been damaged.

The national president of the Australian Institute of Architects, Clare Cousins, says the timber carpentry inside the cathedral’s ceiling was most likely destroyed in the fire.
