Brisbane's federal Liberal MP Trevor Evans and his Labor opponent Paul Newbury did not attend a public climate forum in Brisbane on Wednesday night, inciting criticism from Greens candidate Andrew Bartlett calling the move “disappointing”.

The #ClimateElection forum, hosted by Australian Parents for Climate Action at St Andrew's Uniting Church, originally had a commitment from Dr Newbury, Greens candidate Andrew Bartlett and other minor parties.

Australian Parents for Climate Action spokeswoman Heidi Edmonds, who organised the #ClimateElection Forum, said the "partisan wars" on climate change needed to end, adding that they would have “loved” to hear from Mr Evans and Dr Newbury who were passionate about climate change and renewable energy.

The climate and the environment have increasingly become important issues in the Brisbane and Federal electorate with people calling for increased action and commitment to the cause.
