Australia produces some of the best dairy operation in the world, but an analyst has warned that without a drastic increase in production, the country could soon become an import nation.

While an increasing population has driven demand for dairy products, Australia’s total milk production has shrunk to 8.7 billion litres since its peak production of 11.27 billion litres in 2002.

President of the Australian Dairy Farms advocacy group – Terry Richardson says there is no good future for the dairy industry, but all of these factors have combined to present a challenge that will be difficult to recover from in the next few years.
