French billionaires Francois-Henri Pinault and Bernard Arnault are copping a mountain of criticism after they tried to outbid each other with pledges in the hundreds of millions of euros to fund the rebuilding of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.

People are wondering why the billionaires were so quick to pledge funds to rebuild a cathedral when there are so many other issues that need to be fixed in France.

Some research shows there are 140,000 homeless people in France and of those people 30,000 are children so people are questioning why money can’t be used to help fix big issues such as getting people off the streets.

Numerous people all around the world have publicly criticised them including South African-based journalist Simon Allison who tweeted "in just a few hours... 650 million euros was donated to rebuild Notre-Dame. In six months, just 15 million euros has been pledged to restore Brazil's National Museum. I think this is what they call white privilege."
