Over 30 people yesterday were treated for suspected food poisoning after an Essendon Football Club lunch at the ANZAC Day clash at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The MCG has confirmed four guests were taken to hospital with gastro-intestinal symptoms after attending the president’s club function in the Olympic Room.

Paramedics on the grounds treated others who had fallen ill during the game, the MCG said the function was hosted by the AFL and the Essendon Football Club and were not aware what was on the lunch menu, but an investigation was underway.

A MCG spokesperson says they are working in cooperation with health services and partners to understand what caused the issues.
