North Korea reportedly insisted the United States pay $US2 million dollars ($2.8 million) in medical costs before releasing detained American college student Otto Warmbier while he was in a coma in 2017

22-year-old Mr Warmbier was flown out of Pyongyang in a coma on June 13, 2017 and died six days later. The University of Virginia student was visiting North Korea as a tourist, and was imprisoned in January 2016 after attempting to steal a flag bearing propoganda from his hotel.
Mr Yun told Reuters he could not comment on diplomatic exchanges, but in an interview with CNN on Thursday, he said he was given broad orders to secure Mr Warmbier's release and he understood the instructions came directly from President Trump
