Chinese and US negotiators are attempting to salvage a trade deal hours before $200 billiion worth of US tariffs on china are set to come into force.

The Chinese delegation, led by Vice-Premier Liu He, is set to meet US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin in a hope to resolve the long standing economic strife between the two global leaders.

These new tariffs would be the result of President Donald Trump's public criticising of the trade imbalances between the two countries and the Chinese intellectual property rules he says hobble US companies.
