Welfare groups in the Northern Territory are pushing for restrictions on the sale of household products containing alcohol after sales have spiked in the past three months.

Advocates believe the increase may be due to the growth of the Banned Drinker Register, resulting in more people resorting to other means to get alcohol.

The People’s Alcohol Action Coalition (PAAC) and Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education (FARE) are calling upon the NT government to reform laws and put in place safeguards such as mandatory ID checking to restrict the sale and subsequent abuse of these substances.
