A Melbourne based dolphin protection group have been campaigning in Noosa this week for the removal of shark nets in a bid to move towards non-lethal alternatives.

Figures for the Noosa shark nets deployed between 2001 and 2017 showed of the overall catch, 143 were ‘non-targeted’ species.

While the initial response from the community has been negative, spokeswoman for the group Hannah Tait said they endeavour to lead the way in Queensland for dolphin protection.
