Scientists are warning the NSW Government tree-planting schemes may be doing more harm to the environment than good.

Habitat restoration works in Sydney’s Capertree National Park ordered by the government has worried scientists and environmentalists alike, with former National Parks and Wildlife officers saying the density of the replanted trees could threaten wildlife and vegetation.

The plantings in Capertree generate revenue via the Commonwealth Government’s Emissions Reduction Fund, which has led some scientists to worry that the projects are more about making money by planting as many trees as possible, regardless of the actual environmental impact.
