Prime Minister Scott Morrison has defended a raid by Australian Federal police on the Canberra home of journalist Annika Smethurst, over a story published in 2018 on new powers for Australian intelligence agencies.

Mr Morrison says it never troubles him that our laws are being upheld and Australia strongly believes in the freedom of the press.

Attorney-General Christian Porter denies accusations the government orchestrated the raids and says the investigation is about the disclosure of classified information, not the journalist.
