Right-wing Prime Minister of Denmark, Lars Loekke Rasmussen has resigned following the election which saw a gain for left-wing parties and a loss for populists.

Rasmussen’s resignation leaves the centre-left Social Democrats to attempt to form a one-party minority government.

Votes for the populist Danish People's Party's plummeted to 8.7 per cent, from 21.1 per cent in 2015.
