Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner’s first council budget will introduce a 33 per cent interest charge rebate for developers who build properties to ‘universal’ housing standards.

Universal housing standards ensure properties are designed to be accessible for all people, particularly the elderly, people with disabilities and people with injuries.

Mr Schrinner says there is a growing need and deficit of universal housing in Brisbane, and the Australian-first incentive will allow more people to remain in their homes as they age.
