Researchers say bowerbird populations in north Queensland are in severe decline due to warmer temperatures caused by climate change.
Professor Stephen Williams from James Cook University says both the golden and tooth-billed bowerbird populations are moving from lower areas of the rainforest to higher altitudes to escape warmer conditions.
Professor Williams describes the situation as ‘incredibly alarming’ and says more monitoring is needed to understand the effect of rising temperatures on native species.
