Thirteen people who were paralysed in accidents have had movement in their hands restored through pioneering nerve transfer surgery.
In some cases, patients have returned to work.
Leader of the research programme, surgeon, Natasha Van Zyl says patients were able to use their hands and extend their arms from the elbow, which makes everyday tasks more easy and accessible.
