A Queensland coal mine owned by the BHP Mitsubishi Alliance has been fined $200,000 for dumping dirty water into a nearby river.

The coal mine operator self-reported an uncontrolled release in 2017, which caused about 3000 tonnes of sediment and silt to end up in the Isaac River.

After admitting to causing environmental harm in court, a BMA spokesperson said they acknowledge what occurred was unacceptable and are focused on continuous improvement.
