The UK has invited military representatives of the US, France and other European countries to a meeting in Bahrain today in an attempt to create an international mission to safeguard shipping through the strait of Hormuz in the Arabian Gulf.

According to the Guardian, UK sources say the British proposal to create a European-led mission to prevent future ship seizures by Iran was still alive despite the dismissal of Jeremy Hunt as foreign secretary by new British PM Boris Johnson.

Britain is pressuring other European countries to get involved in securing the shipping route, however considerable opposition remains in Germany, with members of Angela Merkel’s coalition government wary of being dragged into a US-led war against Iran.
