The Australian Privacy Commissioner is calling on Facebook to explain how it will protect users financial information when it launches its new cryptocurrency.

The social media giant is set to launch ‘Calibra’, the digital wallet provider, next year, however there is concern the data and transaction history it collects could be passed back to Facebook.

Facebook has vowed there would be no swapping of information with Calibra unless consent is given, but Information and Privacy Commissioner Angelene Falk says they need proof of that promise.
