The Australian Medical Association has officially labelled climate change a "health emergency".
The AMA says there is “clear scientific evidence indicating severe impacts for our patients and communities now and into the future”.
AMA president, Tony Bartone, says global warming will increase the environment and situations in which infectious diseases can be transmitted, causing higher mortality and morbidity from extreme weather events like heatwaves.
