Instagram announced posts related to weight loss products and cosmetic surgery will have stricter measures in order to protect the health of people online.

Concerns are increasing about young social media users viewing the posts and buying cosmetic and diet products.

Instagram’s public policy manager, Emma Collins, says Instagram should be a more positive place for all users.

“This policy is part of our ongoing work to reduce the pressure that people can sometimes feel as a result of social media,” Ms Collins said.

The medical director of the National Health Service England, Stephen Powis claims the diet products are having a harmful impact on the health of young people.

Mr Powis also called for a ban on celebrity-endorsed social media promoting weight loss aids.
