Djab Wurrung (Jab wurrung) activists are allowing highway work to recommence after 15 sacred trees are saved.
Works are resuming on a Victorian highway upgrade after protections were placed on Indigenous birthing trees.
These protections have been put in place after a partial agreement was struck between the state government, protesters and traditional owners.
The transport minister, Jacinta Allan says, "even though the two registered groups that represent the Djab Wurrung people have formally approved the project, we have entered into this agreement as a show of good faith with the protesters."
