Veteran corrective service officers have warned Queensland’s prisons are being been flooded with inexperienced recruits, which is contributing to the rapid rise in assaults on prison staff.
The warning comes after dozens of officers walked off the job in Townsville yesterday, following the violent assault of two officers this week.
A Queensland Corrective Services spokesperson said they were “reviewing” recommendations made by a parliamentary report into Queensland prisons, following the 308 officer assaults by prisoners from January to August this year alone.
