This Friday 25th October will be the first of two annual closures protecting coral reef fin fish during the spawning season.
Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol District Manager Tony Loader said the closures are in place from the northern tip of Cape York to Bundaberg in the south.
"Queensland Boating and Fisheries patrol will be conducting regular patrols during the closure to remind fishers of the closed season," Mr Loader said.
Recreational fishers will be fined $533 and commercial fishers $1067 if caught fishing during the closure periods.
