Voting polls closed in Argentina late last week, in what has turned out to be a mostly peaceful election despite brewing frustrations and eroding support for the current conservative government.

Amid an economic crisis that has left one third of the population in poverty, the turnout for the election was heavy- with voting possibly bringing about a political shift to the left.

Centre-left Peronist candidate Alberto Fernández is favoured to win a presidential vote, with Fernandez stating that his immediate goal would be to attack poverty, hunger and inflation, if he were to be victorious.
