A QUT researcher from the Australian Centre for Robotic Vision is aiming to get robots to see the world in real time, increasing their ability to interact with objects.

PHD researcher Doug Morrison says current models of robot behaviour used ‘fixed’ vision where the robot operates off one observation of an object.

Instead, he says “In this work we really focused on making sure the robot would move its camera in order to get a better understanding of the world that it’s in, to look around the clutter and mess in the same way you or I would.”

Mr Morrison created an open-source network to enable the robot’s AI to process the information from its camera in real time.
