This weekend's weather forecast was a tale of two extremes, with the New South Wales alps expected to see temperatures drop as low as -6C as the other side of the country swelters through tops of 44C.
Queenslanders were warned to prepare for extreme fire danger as temperatures hit a scorching 37, with 50km/h winds also expected.
Meanwhile, clear skies over northwestern Australia are causing a build-up of heat in Western Australia's Pilbara and Kimberley districts - a regular occurrence at this time of the year.
