The Federal Government has announced strengthening legislations which will allow the Australian Communications and Media Authority or ACMA, to access and block illegal betting websites.
This is a response to an abundance of citizen complaints that the sites refuse to pay out, with the Government estimating that up to $400 million is spent on illegal gambling websites annually.
Communications Minister Paul Fletcher stated that too many Australians are losing money due to misleading practices on over 1000 betting websites- with the sites collecting real money and making it exceedingly difficult for winners to collect.
