A senior Trump administration official said that the United States on Monday condemned “ the unjustified use of deadly force” in the recent violence in Hong Kong and urged the police and civilians to reduce the deterioration of the situation.

The United States issued the above statement after a Hong Kong police shot and critically wounded a demonstrator. A man was set on fire in violence that prompted leader Carrie Lam to denounce “enemies of the people.”

US government officials said in an unnamed statement: "Hong Kong police and civilians have a responsibility to downgrade and avoid violent confrontation." At the weekend, democratic protests by Chinese rule intensified the conflicting territories, the former British colonies.
