More than 3,000 firefighters and thousands of police and other emergency services are deployed or on standby because they fight dangerous fire raging across New South Wales.

At present, there are about 50 major fires burning throughout the state, of which more than half are non-existent and nine are designated as “watch and act”

The temperatures in most parts of New South Wales are expected to reach around 30s, humidity below 10%, west winds north to west, and an average speed of at least 40 km/h.

Prime Minister Gladys Berejiklian said that Greater Sydney, Hunter, Illawarra and Shoalhaven still had catastrophic fire warnings.

Gladys Berejiklian said: "The situation has not changed - every warning we talked about yesterday, each category still exists. The focus of the event is on the North Coast. We are worried that today's extreme weather may trigger many fires that are still burning."
