In southern Vietnam, for the first time in 30 years, a picture of a tiny deer-like creature about the size of a rabbit was photographed in the wild, delighting conservationists who feared the species was extinct.

The Silverback Chevrolet, also known as the Vietnamese Mouse Deer, was recorded 25 years ago when a team of Vietnamese and Russian researchers obtained the dead Chevrolet from the hunter.

Vietnamese biologist An Nguyen, said in a statement: "I found that it is still there. This is the first step to ensure that we no longer lose it. We are now taking action quickly to find out how best to protect it.”

Scientists once thought that this tiny creature has become one of the 25 "most wanted" missing species compiled by the Global Wildlife Conservation Organization (GWC).
