Nearly 200 aged care providers living with more than 50,000 Australian seniors face a serious risk of bankruptcy.

The peak national body for providers, Leading Aged Services Australia, has identified an alarming scale of the risk of collapse.

Its accountant flipped through the publicly available nursing home financial report for 2017/18 and found that 197 medical service providers were facing collapse.

LASA believes that the federal government needs to provide an additional $1.3 billion in funding before Christmas to enable them to make a living.

Chief executive Sean Rooney said on Tuesday: "The scale of this risk is alarming for residents and their families, as well as stressed staff, financially stretched providers and the government.”

Prior to this, a severe review of the Gold Coast Nursing Home was issued, which was forcibly closed after the implementation of management and residents were evacuated.
