A cat has been reunited with its owner after an epic 3400km five-year trip from his home in Portland, Oregon, in the north west of United States to Santa Fe in the country’s far south.

The animal shelter officer that found the plucky cat said it was lucky the pet was microchipped so it could be proved he belonged to Portland resident Viktor Usov.

Mr Usov told the Oregonian newspaper that he had assumed the worst had happened when he couldn’t find the fearless feline anywhere.

He thought a wild animal had taken his pet after his cat didn’t return from his usual prowl in the surrounding area.
