Television presenter Andrew Denton is calling for Premier Anastasia Palaszczuk to introduce voluntary assisted dying laws before the next election, in case the LNP comes to power.

Mr Denton, an advocate for voluntary euthanasia believes there is little chance of a conservative Queensland government pushing the legislation through.

"I encourage the Premier to look at the evidence and have the political will to act on it; not one Queenslander will die as a result of voluntary assisted dying legislation but far fewer will suffer needlessly at the end of life,” Mr Denton said.

The Queensland government passed historic abortion reforms in late 2018, and Mr Denton fears the Premier might be wary about championing controversial legislation close to an election.
