Muhyiddin Yassin was sworn in on Sunday as the 8th Prime Minister of Malaysia after former PM Mahathir Mohamad lost the battle for power.

The appointment follows a week of political chaos, the collapse of the Coalition and formation of new alliances.

Honorary research fellow at the University of Nottingham Malaysia’s Asia research institute, Bridget Welsh says, “for Mahathir, it’s not over. Mahathir as a politician has never left politics, even when he retired. The opposition is mobilising.”
