The Murdoch Children’s Research Institute is conducting a new study on the link between a caesarean birth delivery and childhood allergies.

The study of almost seven thousand children showed there was only a small link between delivery method and asthma but no association between delivery method and eczema or lung function.

The research team, headed by Professor Melissa Wake and Dr Rachel Peters said their study gives parents confidence that if they want or need to have a caesarean birth, their child is unlikely to be at a higher risk of having eczema [exs-ma] and poor lung function and only a possible small risk of developing asthma.
