A military ceasefire was announced in the Syrian rebel stronghold of Idlib province after a summit between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The ceasefire is set to commence today at 12 AM Syrian time.

Idlib province has seen an increase in bloodshed since the beginning of a joint Russian and Syrian offensive into the region which saw Turkey mounting a counter-offensive to repel Syrian forces.

This development comes amid international concern surrounding the growing humanitarian crisis in the rebel-controlled province, with the United Nations estimating that a million refugees have been displaced in Idlib since December of last year.
