The Federal Government has announced funding for a no-interest loan scheme for women fleeing from domestic violence situations. Social services minister Senator Anne Ruston said Australia should be ashamed of the rampant gendered violence in our communities. Senator Ruston said "until we change people's behaviour, we're just going to be responding to domestic violence and we have to start preventing it."

Federal opposition leader, Anthony Albanese says Australia needs a national summit on domestic violence. Telling reporters "We need to make sure that there's a comprehensive plan..."

The $20 Million dollar loan scheme could go towards furniture, whitegoods, car registration, rental bonds and bill payments of women fleeing domestic violence.
