The Qantas Group has announced that it will be reducing services by almost a quarter over the next six months in an effort to battle a decline in bookings amid coronavirus fears.

Qantas will reroute its most popular route to London via Perth and will delay its new Brisbane to Chicago flight until mid-September.

Jetstar will suspend flights to Bangkok and halve flights to Vietnam and Japan to reduce the possibility of its passengers contracting the virus - the equivalent of grounding 38 aircrafts.

The Qantas Group board will also take pay cuts and reduce salaries in an effort to save money in the long-term.

Both Qantas and Jetstar will be contacting customers who are affected by these service reductions in the coming week while those who booked through a travel agent will be contacted that way.
