A military base camp, where US and UK troops are located in Iraq, has been attacked with a rocket. It has not yet been confirmed, but there are concerns an American soldier, an American contractor, and a British soldier have lost their lives.
Tension has increased since a US airstrike led to the death of senior Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani in Baghdad on 3 January. In retaliation an Iranian airstrike on 9 January caused more than 100 soldiers to suffer traumatic brain injuries.
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson says the attack was “deplorable.” The UK has 400 troops based in the Middle East working alongside US forces.
