Queensland Environment Minister Leeanne Enoch has issued an eighth stop order under the Queensland Heritage Act to protect the heritage-listed Broadway Hotel in Woolloongabba.

This comes in light of the most recently submitted development application for the site which included the demolition of structures within the boundary of the heritage-listed area.

This is the latest in a string of stop orders which have been issued to protect the historic value of the site since it was severely affected by fire in 2018.

Member for South Brisbane, Jackie Trad, welcomed the move, stating that she does not support any demolitions or developments which would compromise or go beyond what is necessary to protect the historic value of the site.
