Mali President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita has announced his immediate resignation whilst in the custody of soldiers, one day after the military launched a coup.
When addressing the nation, Mr. Keita also confirmed that both the government and the national assembly would be dissolved.
The coup has been strongly condemned abroad, with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres demanding the immediate and unconditional release of Mr. Keita and his colleagues.
