The Coroner’s Court of Victoria have released new statistics indicating that the current culture of promoting mental health awareness has prevented a spike in suicides throughout the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Whilst the University of Sydney’s Brain and Mind Centre suggested that the nation is purported to see an increase in suicides of at least 13.7 percent over the proceeding 5 years, the Coroner’s Court analysis demonstrates a decrease in suicides this year in comparison with this time last year.

In addition to the active promotion of mental health awareness; Lifeline have reported a 25 percent increase in calls, JobSeeker and JobKeeper payments are reportedly assisting a vast majority of recipients, and mental health specialists are noting that open and transparent discussions are proving more vital and active than ever.
