Queensland Firebirds’ coach Rosalee Jenkee has been under scrutiny after failing to play the Suncorp Super Netball’s only Indigenous player during the league’s Indigenous round.
24-year-old Jemma Mi Mi has been used heavily to promote the Indigneous round and raise cultural awareness, but didn’t take the court in their win against the Vixens.
Super Netball Commentator Sue Gaudion said on Twitter “the hysteria that followed... is a sign that like never before people are aware, are better educated, are expecting better and want to be a part of change and growth in this space”.
Jenkee said in a statement she “misread community expectations and the significance of Jemma’s court time in the game in this round”.
