Former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd is calling for an inquiry into the Murdoch Media’s dominance in Australia.

Mr Rudd has launched an official petition to the Australian Parliament, asking them to establish a royal commission into the abuse of media monopoly in Australia.

Mr Rudd says he is passionate about the country’s future and is hoping Parliament can make recommendations to diversify media ownership for the sake of democracy.

"The truth is Murdoch has become a cancer, an arrogant cancer on our democracy," Mr Rudd said in a video posted on Twitter on Saturday.

According to Mr Rudd, Mr Murdoch owns 70 per cent of Australia's print readership, including local papers the Courier Mail, The Sunday Mail and the Gold Coast Bulletin.
