Rooftop solar panels and COVID shutdowns have been credited for record-low electricity use in Australia.

Wholesale electricity prices are 45 to 48 per cent lower than last year in all eastern states and territories except Tasmania.

Chief executive of the Australian Energy Market Operator, Audrey Zibelman, estimates 70 per cent of the fall Is due to increased use of solar energy while 30 per cent is linked to COVID shutdowns, particularly in Victoria.
