European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen, has called on European leaders to help map intensive care bed capacity to allow the transfer of coronavirus patients from over-crowded hospitals.
Ms. Von der Leyen said reasserting control of the infection rate would require far closer coordination between governments.
The Netherlands has begun air-lifting patients to hospitals in Germany and Belgium is expected to run out of intensive care beds in the next two weeks.
