Following the arrest of Alexey Navalny, tens of thousands of protesters have taken to the streets across Russia to demand the release of the jailed opposition leader.

The protests have seen more than 5, 000 people arrested as of Sunday, in what is the latest in nationwide protests that have rattled the Kremlin.

Authorities in Moscow have introduced unprecedented hardline security measures including closing subway stations, cutting bus traffic and ordering restaurants and stores to stay closed.
