Volunteers in North Queensland have stepped in to help save sea turtles.

The Magnetic Island Network for Turtles has rushed to the animal’s rescue, taking over from the regions only dedicated hospital, Reef HQ Turtle Hospital, whilst it closes for renovations.

Anywhere between 20 and 200 turtles become stranded every year in the region.

The mortality of stranded turtles is high with turtles suffering from conditions brought on by pollution and excessive heat.

The volunteer network’s makeshift hospital has expanded since its beginnings this year, but has yet to secure strong funding for more tanks and medical imaging equipment.
